What wedding photography has been for me…

Photographing weddings has become such a life changing opportunity for both Jesse and I.  We have been truly blessed to have begun this journey in our lives.

This wedding season marks the 12th year in the wedding photography business. Our first wedding ever,  Jesse photographed our good friends wedding by following around their photographer.  Jesse then designed them an awesome flush mount album with black and white color mixes, matching color strokes and feather bleeds!  We were the at the top of the game:)  Haha… needless to say, times have changed and so has our style.  We strive to be classic, timeless and beautiful.

Shooting weddings for that long has really given us some amazing opportunities!  Wedding photography has taken us to different countries, to different states, on road trips.  It has introduced us to different cultures and religions.  We have made lifelong friends and have met some pretty cool people.  I would no way have been able to experience what I have in my life if it wasn’t for wedding photography.

I am drawn to the emotion and love between not just the newlyweds, but also the love and closeness of the families we meet.  The aroma of the fragrant bouquets and flower arrangements during the ceremony and reception, have me craving the smell during the winter.  The time our couples spent planning these weddings has been a feast of my senses and as I pour over the years of wedding we have photographed,  I am brought back to the day they were captured.  I remember the feeling of being there.

As a new year is ahead of us, I can only imagine what lays in store for us and the weddings we will be blessed to capture.

This year also brings a new change for us.  Our 17 year old daughter Alicia has interned and apprenticed for us for many years and now is photographing along with us.  I am very excited about that, and amazed at her talent at such a young age.

Here are a few weddings from one of my favorite years.  I hope you enjoy!

Cakes – The Personality to Your Wedding

After every scrumptious dinner is served at a wedding… you can count on there being dessert.  Most often it will be a cake!  We have really seen some awesome cakes in all the years of doing weddings.  Choosing your cake and topper is fun!  It could be elegant and tall with layer after layer of your favorite flavor.  Or it could be a simple little cake with a special handmade topper, while decadent pies are served to your guests.  Fresh or frosting flowers…  Buttercream or fondant…  Whatever you decide, it is certainly one of the main attractions at your reception, usually being the centerpiece.  So have your cake and eat it too!!

Would you choose a cupcake tower, or a cake?

Sara & Russ | Married at the Island Lodge

Sara and Russ both grew up in Missoula, MT.  They now live in Oregon, but Montana is home to them.  When planning their wedding, they knew that they wanted to have a beautiful Montana wedding with all the comforts and details of what they call home.  They chose the quaint little lodge, Montana Island Lodge that is located right in the middle of Salmon Lake, right outside of Seeley Lake, Montana.  The day was absolutely breathtaking!  Fall colors had just arrived and the lake mirrored them in a breathtaking display.  Their guests were boated to the Lodge to enjoy a full day of celebrating the love that Sara and Russ share together.  The sunflower decorations and rustic lodge, the laughing and celebrating of friends and family, the sweet moments that we witnessed between Sara and Russ were just a few of our favorite things we were a part of that gorgeous day in October.  Enjoy!

Jeff & Abby | Married in Cleveland

Jeff and Abby were married at the Western Reserve Historical Society Museum. There were so many spectacularly unique things about the wedding you are about to see. In ten years of photography, I had yet to photograph a reception that included a carousel and a tater tot bar – both of which I approve of without hesitation.  Did I mention the polaroid signing book? Or the reception was surrounded by the coolest of classic cars and planes?

There were so many things right with this wedding.  It really is what I love best about Cleveland.  It’s what I love best about weddings and live music.  Abby and Jeff were amazing.  To share the day with these two is an honor. We all witnessed a start-to-finish day of laughter and suprises (like the song written by Jeff’s dad played by The Vallures). All of that aling with two of the most joyful, loving people we know makes for quite a wedding day celebration. Here’s what it looked like from our perspective.

Jon & Heather | Rancho Palos Verdes Wedding

Heather and Jon were married in sunny southern California on a gorgeous summer day last August.  This was a very special wedding to me(Nelli) because it was my younger cousins wedding!  It was a time that all my family would be coming together.  I always get a new prespective whenever I get to photograph a family wedding.  Being with family the week before, anticipating the wedding and having our children as part of the wedding is so special.  It shows me how to relate with the couples that we photograph and to value those special moments of family being together.  Our daughter Alicia was my second shooter, which made it super fun:) It was also a special day because my parents were there, and it was their 40th wedding anniversary!!

Heather and Jon are both very talented musicians and actually met from being cast in the same musical production! The wedding was a very special day for both of them to bring together their families. They knew they wanted a beach themed wedding, so they chose the location, Point Vincente Interpretive Center in Palos Verdes that overlooked the Pacific Ocean.  The day couldn’t have been more beautiful with all the handmade decorations, perfect weather, awesome music and loving family.  Heather and Jon put together a band of very talented musicians and even surprised everyone with a guest appearance of both of them singing to wrap up the night!  Everyone who attended was totally blown away by their musical talents and also the love they share.

Congrats Heather and Jon!
